Our heritage is not only a source of astonishment and wonder but it is also the living testimony of our history and the legacy of past generations. As such, we have a duty to preserve and pass on this wonderful heritage to future generations.
The communal religious heritage contributes to the soul of our territories and although this may seem surprising in a secular nation, the church of a commune and the works of art which compose it are forming a major anchor point of the identity of this territory.
Thus, perched on the cliff which dominates Vaison-la-Romaine, the small Sainte-Marie de l'Assomption cathedral is so strongly integrated into the landscape and life of the Upper Town that it has been classified as a “historic monument”. This classification allows ensuring its protection.
